Smart Grid Development: Opportunities and Challenges:
The panel will look at new technologies with smart grid development and their application for consumers and utilities. The panelists will discuss some of the challenges to smart grid development, including current utility infrastructure, concerns from consumer and low-income advocates, and the technological limitations to the grid.
Renewable and Transmission Development: Habitat, Wildlife and Land Use:
The panel will explore the environmental impact of transmission and large-scale renewable energy projects currently in development. The panel will look at the key challenges with these projects, including considerations for habitat, wildlife and land use. Panelists will discuss the solutions and tools available to address the environmental issues and successfully build new projects.
Power Plant Transition in the Northwest
The panel will provide a forum for key constituencies engaged in the transition of coal-fired power plants in the Northwest. Specifically, panelists will discuss strategies that can address stakeholders concerns involved in the closure of the Boardman coal plant. These will include panelists with insight on the main regulatory elements to any plant closure, the consumer and ratepayer impacts, the environmental and health concerns, jobs and the local economy, and the reliability of power supply, etc.
