Sara Patton has led the NW Energy Coalition as its Executive Director since November 1993. Sara has worked on clean energy for over twenty-five years. Before coming to the Coalition she worked on conservation policy and planning at Seattle City Light. Sara earned her law degree from Antioch School of Law. Sara has been on the Board of Directors of Save our Wild Salmon since 1995, is a board member for the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance and is a member of the Pike Place Market Historical Commission.

Nancy Hirsh is Policy Director for the NW Energy Coalition. Nancy directs the Coalition’s efforts to enhance investments in energy efficiency, renewable resources, and low income energy services through work with utilities, commissioners, regulators, and legislators. Prior to joining the Coalition in 1996, she spent twelve years in Washington, DC working on national energy policy issues for the Environmental Action Foundation and the National Wildlife Federation.

Marc is Communications Director for the NW Energy Coalition. A Seattle native, he spent many years in the Midwest as a daily newspaper environment and utilities reporter and science writer/editor before coming to the Coalition in Winter of 2003. Marc is the architect of the Coalition’s various publications including: The Energy Activist, The Transformer and the Energy Matters Update.

Cy Berryman

Cy joined the Coalition in 2004 and directs the Coalition’s outreach efforts and coordinates work among member groups to advocate for clean and affordable energy. In 2006, Cy was the Statewide Field Director for the successful campaign to pass Initiative 937. Prior to joining the Energy Coalition, he was a lead organizer for the healthcare union, SEIU 1199NW. When not working for a clean energy future, Cy can be found enjoying the great outdoors of the Northwest.

Alison is the Outreach Associate at the NW Energy Coalition. Prior to joining the Coalition, Alison restored critical habitat as a member of the Washington Conservation Corps. She also organized a successful legislative campaign and served as a Legislative Assistant for the Washington State House of Representatives. Alison holds a Masters degree in Environmental Studies from The Evergreen State College. In her spare time, she enjoys playing the violin and traveling.

Lilah leads Coalition development and strategic work in the areas of sponsorships, corporate giving, donor relations, and events. She enjoys working closely with staff, donors, and volunteers to advance clean energy in the Northwest. Prior to joining the Coalition she managed development and communications programs for non-profit organizations including CityClub, Worldchanging, Seattle Goodwill Industries, and the EOS Alliance. She holds a Certificate in Fundraising Management from the University of Washington’s Evans School of Public Affairs and a Bachelor’s of Arts from Bard College. When not at work she enjoys traveling, volunteering her time with the Climate Reality Project and the Pollinator Pathway, as well as, performing with the dance company she co-founded in 2009, Sapience Dance. Joni leads the Coalition’s efforts in Washington state.  She moved to Washington from Arizona in 2013, where she worked in the solar industry and most recently with Arizona State University’s Global Institute on Sustainability.  Besides working as an activist on public lands, energy/efficiency, clean air, water and wildlife issues, she has worked for local and regional governments, a regional planning agency and several non profits.

Wendy is Senior Policy Associate for the NW Energy Coalition, leading its efforts in Oregon state. Prior to joining the Coalition, Wendy worked as a policy analyst for Sustainable Northwest focusing on federal land management and rural economic development issues. She has also worked for Portland General Electric in the areas of greenhouse gas reporting and corporate footprint monitoring.  Her work with the Columbia River Intertribal Fish Commission provided her with a deep appreciation for the importance of water, salmon and clean energy in our region. For fun, Wendy enjoys hiking, biking and exploring Portland’s wonderful farmers markets with her family.

Gwen joined the Coalition in 2008 to work on a temporary salmon recovery project, but quickly found herself being pulled into other aspects of the Coalition’s business. She currently manages the Coalition’s finances, operations, grants, human resources and tech support. Gwen jokingly refers to herself at the organization’s “cat-herder-in-chief”. She enjoys developing and using a diverse set of skills. Prior to joining the Coalition, Gwen worked as an environmental educator, a salmon-recovery planner, a volunteer coordinator, a native plant nursery manager and an outreach coordinator for several non-profits and government agencies. In her spare time Gwen can be found practicing and teaching yoga, gardening in her community p-patch, and exploring the great outdoors.

Fred came on board in February 2011, and is very pleased to be involved with the Coalition again after being a co-founder and board member in the 1980s.  He has a background in energy and climate policy and worked at several firms involved with energy efficiency program evaluation in the Northwest and nationally.  He later formed a database services business assisting nonprofit groups around the country.  He has been active in the Sierra Club’s national energy and climate effort and leads their delegation at the UN climate conferences, and currently serves on the board of the Citizens Utility Board of Oregon.

John joined the Coalition in 2014 as a Senior Policy Associate covering energy efficiency and building codes, primarily focusing on Washington. For the prior eight years, John was on the Seattle City Council and the City Budget Office policy staff, covering a variety of finance, budget, utility and pension issues. In 2014, he switched his career focus to energy policy and climate protection through greenhouse gas reduction. In his spare time, John is legislative coordinator for the Seattle Electric Vehicle Association, which promotes EV adoption and lower carbon emissions in Washington’s transportation sector. John holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and German from Rice University and a master’s in public affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton.

Kat Plimpton is a graduate student in the Masters of Public Administration Program at the Evans School, University of Washington, where she is simultaneously working toward a Certificate in Environmental Resource Management. She earned her bachelors at Northwestern University, where she majored in Political Science and minored in History. A native Seattleite, Kat has traveled extensively and worked abroad in South Korea as an English teacher. Her areas of interest include corporate sustainability, clean energy, and regional climate policy in the Pacific Northwest.

Diego joined the Coalition team in January 2010 after working on climate change issues at the federal level with Montanans for a Healthy Climate. Diego is also the owner of Play On Soccer, a soccer retail store in downtown Helena.

He enjoys spending his free time in Montana’s beautiful backcountry, traveling in Latin America, or playing any sport remotely competitive.
